Health Promotion Week 2018

Health Promotion Week took place in Loreto Crumlin from April 9th-13th.  The week consisted of promoting a healthy lifestyle for both body and mind through exercise, diet, teamwork and mental wellbeing.

The Ember Team as always kept spirituality at the heart of everything we do and their Thought for the Day each morning was a great way to get the day started.  Thursday was especially marked as mental health awareness day also.

Physical activities comprised of senior students having an energetic dance session in the hall.  The 4th years had a “Cycle to Loreto Clonmel” challenge on the exercise bikes in the school. 4P proved victors in this TY class challenge “virtually” reaching our sister school in Tipperary having covered 170km in 4 hours.  The whole school also got the opportunity to take part in our “Walk on Wednesday” after school midweek.

Our school lunches are a key element in promoting healthy eating.  We are grateful to Glanmore foods for providing the produce we serve in our Dining Hall every day.  Transition year students took a trip to Glanmore’s HQ in Blanchardstown on Monday.  on Tuesday we were honoured to be presented with our “Happy Heart” healthy eating award by Sinead Shanley of the Irish Heart Foundation.

Parents also got involved in the week with a cooking class in the school and a relaxing Yoga class.  Transition Years also had a chance to try Yoga.  First Years got an opportunity to show their sporting prowess in a games tournament in the hall.

There was a perfect end to the week in the Dining Hall with a delicious selection of fruit and healthy snacks provided kindly by Glenmore Foods and Super-Valu Sundrive Road, courtesy of their manager Dermot Nee.
