A Camogie Half-Term to Remember

A very successful half term for our Senior Camogie team was capped by reclaiming the Shield in the Loreto Blitz tournament in Fermoy on Thursday, October 20th.

Accompanied by Mr. Quinn and Ms. Taylor, the team ventured down to the ‘Rebel’ county in search of success and they achieved it through a hat-trick of victories over county rivals Loreto Balbriggan, Loreto Swords and Loreto St. Stephen’s Green.  Defeats against impressive Loreto Fermoy and Loreto Kilkenny teams couldn’t dampen the spirits of our girls and we are delighted to have the shield back in our trophy cabinet for another year.

The good run of form for both our Junior and Senior Camogie teams started back on 26th September with our opening Camogie fixture away to Sancta Maria. Loreto took the lead with early goals from Paris Chebah, Katie Whyte and Jennifer Moore. This gave our girls a great start and we never looked in danger of registering a loss after. The second half saw a spirited effort from Sancta Maria that made the second half very entertaining and competitive. Notable performers for Loreto were Amber Roche, Sarah Whyte and Shauna Bowden. Sancta Maria 4-2 Loreto Crumlin 5-10.

Our first Junior fixture of the year took place in Na Fianna on Mobhi Road against Holy Faith Glasnevin. From start to finish this was a pulsating match that ebbed and flowed in the direction of both teams. A tight affair was settled with goals from Jennifer Moore and Paris Chebah. This was a brilliant team performance by every player especially our first years who really should stood up and showed how brave and determined Loreto Crumlin are on the pitch. Player of the game, Claire Kiernan was excellent throughout and really showed her character and skill when the game was in the melting pot. HF Glasnevin 2-7 Loreto Crumlin 4-6.

On October 4th, Good Counsel on Galtymore Road was the venue for our Senior Camogie Teams second outing in this years Senior Championship. The opponents were Colaiste Pobail Setanta in near perfect conditions in Drimnagh. Loreto got off to a great start with a goal from Kadie Dunne and brilliant pointed efforts from Beth and Sarah Whyte, but the pick of the early scores was a superb Jade Howell point. A second goal from Sarah Whyte free followed soon after. CP Setanta, to their credit, came into the game and Loreto’s scores dried up. A tight tough affair followed with Loreto seeing the game out to record their second win on a final score of Loreto Crumlin 2-7 CP Setanta 0-5. Notable performers were Claire Kiernan, Abi O’Neill, Sadb McCauley and Jade Howell.

A sunny setting in Hartstown Community School saw our Senior Camogie Team record their third victory in the  competition. Loreto started at a hectic pace and a competitive Hartstown team couldn’t cope with flowing attacks from the Loreto forward and midfield lines. Notable performers in  a comfortable win on the day were Katie Whyte, Abi O’Neill and Jade Howell.
