Almost 50 students from our school, accompanied by teachers, parents and members of the Board of Manangement, travelled to Mullingar on Saturday 24th January to join over 2000 other Loreto students, Loreto sisters, teachers, past pupils and parents at the special Mass to celebrate the opening of the first Loreto school in St Omer in 1609. Cardinal Sean Brady, brother of our Deputy Principal Mrs Mulligan, was the chief celebrant. Among the many Loreto sisters in attendance were Sr Marian Moriarty, the General Superior of the Order and Sr Teresa McPaul, the Irish Provincial who was on the staff in Loreto Crumlin until a few years ago. There was a special warm welcome for Sr Ann Mary who left Crumlin last year to go and join Sr Orla, another of our former staff members, in the newest Loreto school in Rumbek, Sudan. Sr Ann Mary travelled from Sudan with two students. There were also students from Australia and Gibraltar. Tori Greene (1st Year) represented Crumlin in the Entrance Procession where students from the 33 Loreto schools in Ireland all carried flags from the different countruies where the Loreto sisters now work. Along with a student from each school in the country, Bebhinn Maguire (6th Year) received a commemorative candle for the school from Sr Teresa McPaul. Many other events are planned to mark this very special occasion over the coming months, including a trip to Kenya for 2 girls from each school in June and several other outreach projects. |
Alicia Brady & Margaret Boxwell join the lead singers from the other Loreto schools on the altar in Mullingar's Christ the King Cathedral.
